Welcome to Ministry At Zero Degrees

Why is this newsletter called Ministry at Zero Degrees?

I’m a 64-year-old bi-vocational pastor who has never held a college degree.

I don’t have a degree from a four year institution or Bible College, yet I am equipped to study and teach the word!  I’d like to help you know the Word of God and how to study it for yourself.

You might feel the same way, or maybe you just like to talk about Jesus or theology and doctrine. There’s a good chance if you are reading this, that you too would like to be iron that sharpens iron.

If you enjoy edifying and building up one another, asking questions, answering those less skilled in the word and doctrine, and Christian fellowship, then this might be the newsletter for you.

What I’ve seen during my 45 years of being a born-again believer is that many Christians are wiser in the word than their “educated” counterparts.

Most of the 12 apostles would never qualify as pastors of our modern churches, since none held fancy ABC titles like M.Div. or Doctor of Theology! They were tax collectors and fishermen, and more ordinary men. Paul the Apostle may have been the only one with a higher education.

What are we going to talk about here then? Pretty much anything that sparks my interest or maybe yours.

We are told that we should walk worthy of the Lord fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:10)

In other words, how we live should always honor and please the Lord, our lives should produce good fruit, and we should be learning and growing in our knowledge of God and His ways.

What’s Ministry At Zero Degrees All About?

My oldest son and youngest daughter have started a young adult ministry in our community. I’m as proud as a father can be that they took this on all by themselves. My son teaches the study. It all started after he came to me and asked me to teach him how to study and prepare a bible study message.

Wow! Knock my socks off and call me blessed.

Now, those same two young adult children are asking me to teach other young adults how to study the Bible for themselves.

It’s ironic.

As a family, we’ve been attending a church that is part of the Berean Fellowship of Churches. If you recall God praised the Bereans for all time when He said of them

These (of Berea) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore, many of them believed, also of honorable women who were of the Greeks, and of men, not a few.
